Family Description:

Plans, designs, develops, evaluates, selects, and orders equipment/applications for the development of new company products and/or cost-effective manufacture of existing company products. Oversees the specification, design, outsourced fabrication job, installation, qualification, ramp-up, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment/application. Maintains professional and equipment vendor networks to stay updated on trends and developments in the equipment industry. This must feed his/her expertise in order to propose new tool concepts.

Capable of cross-functional teamwork with RnD Dept. for new process development or troubleshooting with local process engineering and maintenance teams.

Able to conduct a detailed study of deployed equipment to evaluate its performance and reliability and find opportunities for improvement. Able to make a high-level analysis of factory needs and define projects roadmap & priorities. Able to assess ROI and skillset needed for each project. Capable to drive project owners in order to meet the Quality, Cost, and Delivery targets.


Knowledge and Technical Skills (mandatory):

  • Autonomous, organized, rigorous
  • Mechanical, Electrical or Automation science & techniques
  • 3D model, elec/pneu diagrams review and analysis (Solidworks, CATIA)
  • Tool development background in Industry
  • Project management background based on QCD metrics
  • Capacity to learn, curiosity about manufacturing processes,…
  • Able to synthesize a data raw file into 2 to 3 major outcomes
  • Tool capability, downtime, cycle time analysis


Knowledge and Technical Skills (good-to-have):

  • Automated Lines background
  • Layout design: AutoCAD,…
  • Lean basics: VSM, MUDA, 6M, PDCA,…


  • Work in autonomy, following guidelines from Dept manager
  • Follow internal business processes, anticipate the impact of any event on project timeline and costs
  • Define the tool specifications: get internal agreement, then be the interface with suppliers
  • Propose solutions to keep committed targets/timeline in case of game-changer
  • Represent the company when visiting (potential) suppliers
  • Respect IP protection rules, and contract terms passed with suppliers
  • Use the right issue resolution and solution rating techniques
  • PV market/products keep changing every day: adaptive and flexible mindset required
  • Manage several projects in parallel

  • Be customer-oriented: always consider safety, ergonomics, and maintainability above all
  • Deploy process changes requires good negotiation and persuasion skills
  • Collaborates company-wide on cross-functional, cross-divisional teams.

  • Do the right thing in SunPower’s best interest: challenge supplier’s technical offers on cost, time, deliverables.

  • Deliver risk analysis and mitigation plan for any change proposed
  • Be responsible for the qualification test plan & results in accuracy/reliability
  • Define process window of the tool as well as Process control limits
  • Always prepare backup plans
  • Complies at all times the Environment, Health and Safety and Manufacturing Quality standards, rules and regulations

  • Performs other duties may be assigned

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • M.S. Degree and 10+ years of experience in Industry
  • 5+ years of Experience in Automation projects, Tool Development
