We are seeking a self-motivated and hands-on engineer with excellent forensic and problem-solving skills to join our Module Product Engineering & Aftersales team.  If there is a problem in the field, this team is the last stop for field issue engineering resolution – “the buck stops here”.  As a Module Product Engineer Manager you will serve as a critical step in closed-loop learning for Maxeon, using and developing state-of-the-art analytical tools and methods to diagnose panel issues in the field, perform failure analysis on customer returns, validate degradation and failure models, communicate failure details and root cause to key stakeholders, and recommend resolution pathways to the SunPower technical support team.  You will also support early-phase design by providing “lessons learned” from the field, and help conduct outdoor field testing to assess panel performance.



  • Conduct hands-on failure analysis and forensics on solar module field returns utilizing destructive and nondestructive testing and analytical techniques.
  • Perform experiments to re-create failures observed in the field, both in outdoor tests and in lab accelerated tests.
  • Provide clear and comprehensive failure analysis reports and present to internal teams responsible for design, manufacturing, quality, installation, and maintenance. Develop materials supporting customer communications.
  • Set up outdoor test hardware, data acquisition and instrumentation for new installations or test sites.
  • Provide design teams with recommendations for current and future generation product improvements based on field data analysis.
  • Troubleshoot, Investigate and effectively & efficiently engineer solutions to solve complex customer problems
  • Reduce warranty liability costs by engineering & deploying the best cost solutions for new or complex issues
  • Manage field deployment projects
  • Provide technical contract support
  • Defining standard failure analysis methods
  • Final escalation point for regional Product Engineers
  • Define standard technical issue resolutions and deploy across global support teams






  • BS degree in materials science, electrical engineering, energy technologies, or related field.
  • 10+ years experience in an engineering role (solar industry preferred) or MS degree.
  • Hands-on experience with failure analysis and materials characterization techniques (electrical testing and characterization, thermal imaging, root cause analysis).
  • Proven field experience and/ or electrical characterization/ troubleshooting/ analytical skills.
  • Ability to think creatively learn and develop innovative solutions to electro/mechanical challenges involved with photovoltaic installations.
  • Familiar with data acquisition systems and data analysis.
  • Self-motivated, with ability to work both independently and with multiple teams.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Strong customer-focused attitude.
  • Experience in PV industry is desirable.



  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders to access rooftop solar sites.
  • Must be able to lift 40-lb solar panel.
  • Up to 30% domestic and some international travel to company and customer sites.
