SUMMARY OF ROLE
Responsible for sustaining, design, installation, and project management for process UPW (Deionized Water – DIW) and IWW systems to support a solar factory in New Mexico. These systems are designed to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruption, creating a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment. Plans facilities changes for plant, office, and production equipment layouts, working toward economy of operation, maximum use of facilities and equipment, and compliance with laws and regulations. Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Prepares bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition. Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation and other related costs. Inspects construction and installation progress for conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules. Develops criteria and performance specifications required to meet unique operating requirements and building and safety codes.
Responsibilities Include
- UPW/IWW Engineering responsibilities:
- Ensure safe, reliable, efficient operation of systems and capacity to meet manufacturing demand
- Engineering support for UPW and IWW System operations & maintenance, ownership of System capacity vs. demand, and system Troubleshooting
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and Maxeon team(s) to complete UPW and IWW scope to meet safety, cost, and schedule goals
- Hydraulic and pneumatic system calculations and flow modeling
- Knowledge of chemical compatibility for materials for process fluids; as well as materials of construction needed for UPW and IWW systems to meet high purity requirements
- Interface with site leadership to comprehend growth plans and process changes, capital planning to accommodate expansion, reliability improvements, and efficiency enhancements
- Ownership of environmental compliance of worldwide wastewater systems
- Systems include:
- Ultrapure Water
- Pretreatment, primary, and polish systems and distribution
- IWW
- Waste drain collection distribution
- Neutralization/treatment
- Hydrofluoric Acid treatment
- Waste chemical drain distribution and collection
- General Plumbing System:
- Potable and non-potable water systems
- Storm/Roof and Sanitary Drainage
- Condensate drainage
- Ultrapure Water
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance team to develop plans for maximizing operational and maintenance efficiency.
- Manage technical, administrative, financial, schedule aspects, strategic communications, and customer stakeholder relationships during the execution of various facilities projects.
- Permitting and Code compliance related to UPW and IWW Systems and associated infrastructure
- Effectively manage system deliverables including points of delivery, utility parameters, specification limits, and notification methods.
- Develop and maintain SOP’s and SOO’s for systems that you own and identify systems requiring operating procedures and assist operations team in development and training.
- Work to integrate reliability focus and risk analysis into Engineering job scope. This includes FMEAs, root cause analysis, design, commissioning, and training.
- Complete sustaining system activities and projects safely and reliably with no disruption to customer operations
- Successfully communicate with multiple organizations and maintain customer focus
- Project Management responsibilities:
- Responsible for the engineering analysis, design, and installation oversight of distribution and collection systems for UPW and IWW.
- Plan, develop and implement projects that are required for improvement, growth or rearrangement of existing systems
- Oversee projects to meet design criteria, scope, budget and schedule.
- Direct and execute project commissioning to ensure all UPW and IWW systems equipment, components and infrastructure perform as designed
- Organize and plan design activities, create construction documents and/or manage external design teams in the development of those documents.
- Provide construction administration and management within operating manufacturing facilities including responding to submittals and requests for information
- Manage project and equipment installations, including project resources, schedules, and budgets
- Team with other engineering disciplines, management, internal customers, and suppliers to ensure projects and systems are cost effective, within budget, meet the desired design criteria and schedule guidelines
- Create and communicate project documentation including sequence of operations, installation procedures, and checklists for commissioning and start-up
- Write scopes of work, bid request for proposals, specify and order material
- Ensure projects and systems are compliant with applicable codes, cost effective, and meet the desired design criteria while adhering to budget and schedule guidelines
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or equivalent degree
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience and understanding of safety and environmental requirements for hazardous materials and the compatibility of materials of construction
- Experience with managing projects in design and construction

Preferred Job Skills And Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
- 5 years or more experience with Solar or Semiconductor Facilities UPW and IWW Systems Experience designing, maintaining, or installation of distribution piping, unit process equipment, chemical treatment systems for UPW and IWW applications.
- Detailed understanding of principles and chemical/mechanical UPW and IWW unit process steps for effective treatment to support manufacturing.
- Experience with latest technology unit processes for preparation of UPW and treatment of IWW systems for the solar or semiconductor industry
- Experience with industrial facilities
- Experience with installation, construction, and management of capital projects
- Certifications or training with specific UPW and IWW infrastructure is a plus
- Demonstrates leadership and project management skills, including organizational, time management and priority setting
- Candidate must demonstrate strong safety leadership
