SUMMARY OF ROLE

 

The Staff Engineer (Thin Film Process) develops and/or delivers new and existing Thin Film process technologies like plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) grown films on silicon from conceptualization up to full production following Maxeon Solar Technologies’ robust business development process.  This position collaborates with the world’s leading PV R&D organization and advance laboratory facilities (in US, Singapore and elsewhere) to develop and deploy in high volume production the world’s highest efficiency solar cell at competitive cost. 

The Staff Engineer (Thin Film Process) directly reports to the Cell R&D Principal Engineer (Thin Film and Thermal) at the local site.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Innovates and directly creates thin film processes leading to cutting-edge PV products.
  • Develops and deploys new thin film processes from concepts originating at advanced R&D labs
  • Regularly provides technical report from experimentation and/or related literature searches
  • Provides technical leadership and mentorship to members of R&D team
  • Defines equipment requirements and specifications to prototype/manufacture new thin film processes and PV cell architecture
  • Effectively works with Maxeon business processes as required, meeting project objectives and timelines
  • Interfaces with external vendors/material suppliers, consultants and customers to meet project goals
  • Communicates effectively across multiple levels of the organization, including top management
  • Complies at all times with the Environment, Health and Safety and Manufacturing Quality standards, rules and regulations.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educational Background:
  • Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or related field
  • Belong to the top 10% of the class
  • Experience
  • Minimum 4-year experience in laboratory or industrial setting on thin film processes (PECVD, APCVD, MBE, MOCVD, ALD) or related technologies
  • Hands-on experience on vacuum technology
  • Hands-on experience on thin film deposition and plasma physics
  • Experience in process development/deployment in laboratory scale or in high volume manufacturing environment
  • Skills/ competencies
  • Ability to creatively tackle challenging projects
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly motivated to learn new things
  • Experience in data analysis, usage of statistical methods and design of experiment in R&D or manufacturing environment

 

Preferred requirements (an advantage)

  • Educational Background:
  • Ph.D. in related science/engineering fields (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Physics)
  • Skills/Competencies
  • More extensive experience in PECVD, both process and tool (strong plus)
  • Knowledge on electrical, mechanical, chemical and optical properties of thin films
  • PV or semiconductor device physics knowledge at a working level (strong plus)
  • Familiarity with manufacturing failure analysis and reliability testing methods
  • Working knowledge of thermal diffusion processes in wafer or PV fab
