Summary of the Role:

Are you a university student with a passion for cutting-edge technology and sustainable solutions? Maxeon Solar is thrilled to be hiring for our 2024 Summer Interns. Join us as an Engineering Intern and become part of our dynamic team working on groundbreaking photovoltaic technology projects. As an intern, you'll collaborate with experts in various engineering fields and gain hands-on experience in experimental design, data analysis, and problem-solving.

This role is in the Module R&D Group at Maxeon Solar. The Performance Engineering Intern will help support outdoor testing of PV module products at Maxeon’s Outdoor Test Facility in Davis, CA. The position involves work within a dynamic, cross-departmental team of engineers, technicians, and internal customers to understand research needs, execute test plans, assist with data analysis, and communicate experimental results to contribute to the development of new PV module products. This is a very hands-on role, including indoor and outdoor field work at our test facility. 

In this role you will have the opportunity to gain experience with photovoltaic technology, materials, instrumentation, metrology, experimental design, data analysis, and hands-on lab and field testing skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• This role involves a mix of work at the desk/computer, in the lab, and in the field
• Assist with outdoor PV test installation, maintenance, and execution 
• Operate indoor and outdoor PV test equipment
• Perform data quality control
• Assist with test facility operation & maintenance
• Support R&D Engineers with performance analysis and report generation
• Work closely with other engineers, including on cross-functional teams
• Innovate, and solve challenging technical problems with a positive, solution-oriented approach
• Typically 10-15 hours/week, with the option to work up to 20 hours/week. This role is designed to be compatible with a university student schedule.  
• Field work requires ability to perform light construction, including handling PV modules up to ~50 lbs

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

• Upper division student in Engineering or related field
• Should be comfortable with hands-on technical or experimental work (mechanical and electrical)
• Programming experience a plus, especially Python
• Creative, self-motivated, and self-directed
• Candidates should be local to the Davis/Sacramento area
