SUMMARY OF ROLE

Maxeon is seeking a dynamic Director, Commercial Counsel to join Maxeon’s Legal Department. This role will lead the development of our distributed generation business in the US and will provide support to other jurisdictions and on strategic transactions on an as-needs basis. This is a truly unique opportunity to be regional counsel at a high-profile NASDAQ-listed solar company involved in some of the most significant renewables projects in the world. This role will interface regularly with Maxeon’s executive leadership team, providing excellent legal advice and counsel on a broad range of critical business initiatives.  The ideal candidate will be based in San Jose, CA, but a remote work opportunity will be considered for outstanding candidates with distributed generation solar experience.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead Maxeon’s legal team on all matters within our distributed generation & residential business group.
  • Support critical business transactions including the development of our dealer & distributor channels as well as key marketing and financing efforts.
  • Apply practical experience to help shape business and legal terms, deal structures and transaction processes for Maxeon in the region.
  • Manage disputes and outside counsel initiatives arising out of the distributed generation business.
  • Advise Maxeon’s executive team on key renewables and solar policy matters in the region.
  • Collaborate with the supply chain organization and with our technology team to ensure seamless execution of customer contracts.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Maxeon counsels around the globe to ensure agreements are consistent with internal policies, practices and processes.
  • Develop, maintain and continuously refine forms, playbooks, trainings, policies, processes, procedures, and other tools important to the efficient and effective support for the business.

 

RELATED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Qualified to practice law in the US.
  • Education from top tier universities with exceptional academic credentials.
  • At least 5 years of experience at a top law firm in commercial transactions, or at least 3 years at a top law firm with 2 or more years in-house with a renewable energy company.
  • Experience in solar distributed generation a strong plus.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and to engage effectively with all levels of employees and management, balancing multiple client demands.
  • Have excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Experience building successful relationships and trusts across a diverse range of cultures, both internally and externally
  • Be detail-oriented, organized, efficient and resourceful with strong follow-through skills, with a passion for results
  • Be highly analytical and have exceptional business and legal issue identification and problem-solving skills
  • Have impeccable professional ethics, integrity and judgment, naturally adhering to Maxeon’s value of Holding Ourselves to a Higher Standard
  • Entrepreneurial, curious, with exceptional strategic and problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding, and sometimes unstructured environment
  • Have a strong desire to learn the business and new areas of law across multiple jurisdictions and to function integrally as part of an interdisciplinary team

 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • In this role one could be spending extended periods of time moving, traversing, remaining stationary all for extended periods of time
  • Able to communicate, receive, and understand information and ideas with diverse groups of people in a comprehensible and reasonable method
  • Able to use and learn standard office equipment and technology with proficiency
  • The position requires travel with the potential of overnight stays between assigned facilities and various locations within the community. Less than or equal to 25% travel.
  • Day to day work is completed in the office at personal computer M-F, first shift hours
  • Ambient noise level is usually quiet, consisting of normal conversations, business machines, telephones, but occasionally may be above average for portions of the business day

Salary range in San Jose, CA: $215,000 - $280,000
