As a Materials Engineering Intern within the SunPower R&D team, you will be responsible for developing, executing, and analyzing results from complicated experiments critical to the design our next generation solar modules. The purpose of this position is to use a first-principles approach to support the development of flexible solar panels. In this position, you will design and develop models for solar modules under environmental stress to determine their reliability. Additionally, you will gain experience working in a dynamic R&D lab and metrology lab.  


  • Level of Junior or above and in good standing at a four-year university enrolled as a full-time student pursuing an undergraduate degree in Material Science, Physics, Semiconductors, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. 

Experience gained in this position: 

  • You will learn how solar modules are designed and developed  

  • Hands-on experience with materials characterization and metrology tools 

  • You will be introduced to statistical analysis through tools like JMP used to visualize complex experimental designs and large data sets. 

  • Participate in a professional cross-functional team and work closely with R&D engineers, Lab Operations, and Equipment teams 

  • You will learn how to consolidate critical data into an effective report or presentation and then communicate results to various teams.
