SUMMARY OF ROLE 

Maxeon is seeking a Senior RD&D Solar Cell Engineer to support solar cell equipment and process integration for the new Singapore R&D lab. The R&D Engineer reports to the RD&D Director and will be responsible for equipment and process to support the R&D operations in the lab.  Initially, the role will also support equipment selection, communication with vendors, facility integration, and equipment and process qualification.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following (other duties may be assigned)

  • Work closely with Malaysia, Philippines, and US R&D teams to develop and help deploy advanced high efficient state of the art solar cell products using next-generation manufacturing technologies
  • Help build the Singapore RD&D Lab facility
  • Help select the initial equipment and tools for the Singapore Lab
  • Deliver significant innovation that enhances SunPower’s performance advantage, while reducing manufacturing cost and capital cost
  • Lead projects and project teams
  • Ensure that project milestones and deliverables are met, delivered on time, and adhere to approved budgets
  • Provide excellent communication within SunPower to facilitate tracking and coordinating technology and product development goals and milestones
  • Interface with external vendors/material suppliers, consultants, customers, etc. to meet project objectives and timelines
  • Design experiments and/or methodologies to investigate device performance, yield, and reliability
  • Comply at all times with Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) and manufacturing quality standards, rules, and regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

RELATED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. Degree with at least 4 years R&D experience
  • Proven track record of highly significant advanced Solar PV innovation
  • Very strong process and characterization skills in solar cells and modules
  • Proven record of working very effectively with multiple organizations both within a company and outside the company
  • Ability to handle complex and multiple projects simultaneously within the project timeline, including knowledge of best project management principles and tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing to travel in Asia and the US up to 40% of the time

Preferred Requirements

  • Familiarity with solar cell factory production and solar panel manufacturing
  • PV technology R&D breadth encompassing cell technology at an advanced level
  • Good knowledge and experience in data analysis, usage of statistical methods, and design of experiments; good working knowledge and experience in SPC (Statistical Process Control)
  • Familiar with standard high throughput manufacturing and failure analysis testing methods
  • Knowledge of laboratory and equipment safety standards

 

OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION

  • The position will be based in Singapore, with working visits to our FAB sites in Malaysia and the Philippines
  • The position will require being on-call during weekends, nights, and public holidays in case of emergency
